Picture this: you’ve finally snagged an amazing interview opportunity in the beauty industry. Your potential employer is laughing at all the right times and loving all your answers to the questions they have asked you. However, as the interview is winding down, your potential employer goes “do you have any questions for me?” and your mind goes blank. You have nothing to ask! You simply say “No I do not,” shake hands, and never hear from that employer again. What went wrong?

At Chic Studios, NYC makeup school, during our Bridal + Business week, we stress how important it is to get to know the company you’re interviewing with. After setting up the interview appointment, quickly do some research on where they’re located, how did they start, what their social media looks like, etc. Take some notes and from there, formulate questions to wow your future boss during your interview. It not only looks great on you, but it shows your potential employer that you’re genuinely interested in working there and want to know more about the company culture.

Essentially, you’ve been talking about yourself during the interview process so why not talk about the potential company you’d like to be hired in! These are some questions that are sure to leave a lasting impression on your future employer and help you nab an amazing job. Never be stumped during an interview again!

How would you describe the work environment?

Learn more about what it’s like to work there — find out if everyone is laid back, how long has the company been in business for, if it’s a small business, learn how it started… etc. It shows to your potential employer that you’re intrigued and want to know more about the company besides what your potential duties would be.

Tell me more about the team I’ll be working with…

Being a team player is the number one thing we like to tell potential employers, so why not ask about the company culture! It’ll also give you more insight into the dynamic of the team and if there are a lot of people working.

What made you want to work here?

Pick at your potential employer’s brain! If they’re the owner or director of the company, it’s great to start wanting to get to know them. Like we’ve mentioned before, it shows genuine interest in the company and it gives off a great impression.

How well have others done in this position?

This is the perfect question to ask especially if you’d like to know a little bit more about the position. Learn about what others have done in the past and take the time to work on how to improve their successes and failures.

What skills can I learn here?

With every job, comes a great learning lesson. Obviously, the reason why we want jobs is to receive a paycheck, but a job is also a great way to sharpen and improve the skills you’ve learned in school. Show your potential employer that you’re willing to learn and listen during your time there.
