makeup school nyc artist beauty counter

All successful makeup artists had to start somewhere. Like most, they had humble beginnings working behind a makeup counter inside a department store or at a makeup boutique. Here are some amazing men and women who started behind the beauty counter before getting their big break. In our Chic Studios NYC makeup school, we put our graduates in an aftercare program called the Chic Pro Community where they are given exclusive access to events, shopping discounts, and job listings and opportunities. Recently, we've posted about being a beauty consultant for Nars and when our Sephora Hiring Fairs are coming to our studio. A self-confessed cosmetics nerd, Pat McGrath creates the looks for 80 major fashion shows a year. She’s had her work published in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and W, to name a few, and has worked with designers like Prada, Miu Miu, and Dolce and Gabbana. She’s also designed Armani’s cosmetics line and been in charge of Max Factor and Cover Girl cosmetics since 2004. Because of her success in the pro makeup industry, she is one of our muses at our LA makeup school

At Chic Studios, we take the expertise and knowledge of Pat McGrath’s legacy and cover it in our Fashion + Runway add-on! Our students not only re-create some of her runway looks, but they’re also given scenarios like working to create a uniform look and are timed to experience a real backstage setting.

McGrath has launched so many items in the last year, but here are some of the products that are super chic and a must-have in any makeup lover’s collection! We can’t wait to get our hands on these products from Pat McGrath Labs in our LA makeup school classroom!

The recent runway looks in NYC, Milan, London and fashion hotspots around the world showed off plenty of hot beauty trends for winter that we teach at our Chic Studios Los Angeles makeup schoolIn our LA makeup school, we take the expertise and knowledge of these growing trends and cover it in our Fashion + Runway add-on which is included in our Professional Makeup Course. Our students not only re-create some of these runway looks during rotations but they're given a photoshoot at the end of the course to jumpstart their professional portfolio.
As a professional makeup artist, which ones should you know by heart? Here are some top choices:

1. Sweet Imperfection

pro fashion runway makeup course los angeles giambattista valli
When doing your model’s lips, think “perfectly imperfect.” One trend displayed by Giambattista Valli was the smudged lip in bold statement colors, but not too precisely defined. Diffused edges on the lips give a dreamy effect to pouty, pursed lips or show off thinner ones.
Create the Look: The trick is looking as if you applied the lipstick effortlessly, or as if your model has just been kissed and smeared a touch. Don’t use a harsh lip liner, and apply the lipstick with more natural blending strokes.
