We’re excited to showcase some of our Chic grads’ amazing achievements after graduation! We had the chance to catch up with 4 of our Chic Studios Graduates: Rebecca Latini, Massiel Inoa, Sadia Hadi, and Mackenna Wallace! Here are their success stories!

Rebecca Latini

1. Most Recent Career Highlights?
I would definitely say getting the opportunity to become one of Pittsburgh’s new ‘up-and-coming’ bridal make-up artists, as well as introducing more photoshoot/editorial looks into my portfolio. I have done makeup for business professional head shots, and portraits. Going to Chic has prepared me for any job/setting as a makeup artist and I cannot be more grateful!

2. What made you want to get started in the Industry?

What truly pushed me to want to get started in the cosmetics industry was my passion for making people feel beautiful. When I was younger, I was dedicated to learning about the application process. Once I practiced enough on family/friends, I wanted to make a career out of my craft. I loved the ability to use product to enhance the color of someones eyes, or adding a hint of blush to warm the complexion. Small touches can make someone feel so incredible, and that is why I love being a makeup artist.

3. What have you been up to recently?
Since graduating from Chic Studios, I run my own freelance makeup business, ‘Rebecca Latini Beauty’. I get hired to do a lot of bridal makeup, event makeup, and photo shoot makeup! When I am not running my freelance business, I currently work for BareMinerals as an artist/beauty adviser! I love to keep myself as busy as I can within the beauty industry!
4. Who do you admire in the industry?
I strongly admire Sienna Gross and Emma Chen. Sienna was actually one of my amazing instructors/educators at Chic Studios. I was so lucky to learn from her and pick up so many amazing things! It’s not common to work with such talented, professional artists in a classroom. Just knowing I was able to actually learn from her was unbelievable. I follow a lot of Sienna’s work, which is very gorgeous, effortless, and timeless looks. She is truly a wonderful artist. Emma Chen also provides a gorgeous glowing, soft makeup look on clients. She is an Australian based makeup artist, with a stunning portfolio.
5. What was your favorite experience as a Chic Student?
My favorite experience was learning from my amazing instructors. Its not a specific experience, but the artists that came into my class taught me skills I will take with me forever. Chic Studios shows care and admiration for their students, providing education from top artists. I felt at home instantly. I was a little east coast girl alone in LA, far from home. I walked into class on the first day and felt immediately welcomed. By the second or third day, I had met my 2 current best friends. My fondest memories were made in the classroom at Chic Studios. I was actually sad to graduate because I wish I could stay and learn more every single day. I had looked at MANY schools all over the United States, but the best decision that I will forever be confident in was choosing Chic Studios. The school will forever hold a special place in my heart.

6. What advice would you give to aspiring makeup artists?

I would say to be confident, because you are the expert and worked hard for your certification! Make sure you believe in yourself and it will show in your work! Take your time and realize that mistakes may happen but the great thing about makeup is we can be quick to correct our mistakes and start over! Try to keep up with new techniques and don’t be afraid to take some extra classes to brush up on your skills! Take pride in your craft and let your passion for artistry show through all of your work!

Sadia Hadi
1. Most recent career highlights
-Becoming a CERTIFIED bridal Makeup Artist (it makes a difference, folks!)
-Brands like Billion Dollar Brows noticing my work on Instagram and reaching out to me! (With Brides, great brows are a must!)
-Booking TWO South Asian Brides (and their bridesmaids) for the summer of 2019 (WOOHOO)
-Completing a Bridal Hairstyling Course to become a certified makeup artist & Hair stylist (Always get more work that way!)
2. What made you want to get started in the industry?
I had always been interested in makeup! I love how easily you could transform someone’s face. From super sculpted cheekbones to a more soft rosy flush to the face. And there’s no commitment! It’s fun and it washes off at the end of the day.
After having a baby, I was looking for something to do where I could make my own schedule. Freelancing gives me the freedom to pick as many or as few bookings as I want.
3. What have you been up to recently?
Building my kit and reaching out to as many folks as I can. With Freelancing, word of mouth is everything! I specialize in South Asian (Indian, Pakistani, Bengali & Sri Lankan) Brides! I love the bold lashes, the strong contour, the big hair and the BLING BLING!
I am also signing up for all of my pro discounts. So far I have gotten a few Pro Cards but Chic provided me with all the letters and paperwork I needed to get my pro discounts. Building a kit is expensive and Pro Discounts help a ton!
4. Who do you admire in the industry?
Tamanna Roashan (@DressYourFace) She is my Indian bridal makeup inspo! She does the more traditional bridal looks and even modern Indian bridal looks, and I love that!
I also love Pat McGrath. Her ethereal makeup looks are always so charming to look at. She also does mini Instagram tutorials using her products and the results are beautiful.
Another artist a I really admire is Jessica from @Jessi_Makeup. The way she does the base on her models is amazing! I’m a sucker for soft glowing skin on anyone and this artist has it down to a T! Really recommend checking her page out.
5. What was your favorite experience as a CHIC student?
I absolutely loved the atmosphere at the school! All the instructors are super friendly and so knowledgeable. Also we got to play Beyonce all day in class (Such a pick me up on the cold winter mornings).
I was taught the tricks of the trade by the best of the industry. Chic really set me up for success, Also, the Chic pro community is a great way for new makeup artists to get work. Even if you’ve got a question, you can post it on there and you get answers from your peers and instructors.
6. What advice would you give to aspiring makeup artists?
A skill learned is never time wasted!
I was worried that becoming certified would not help me much but I was wrong! It is easy for folks to do beautiful makeup on themselves because we know what looks best on US, but a real makeup artist can look at a client and tell right away what undertone, type of skin, and type of makeup would suit them, and that is a learned skill. The amount of work I have done since finishing makeup school, I would not have been able to do otherwise. I love makeup and I love talking to people, and this is why I became a Chic Studios Certified Bridal Makeup Artist!

Mackenna Wallace
1. Most recent career highlights?
-Volunteering for Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice holiday elegance fashion show as a makeup artist.
-Doing makeup for a portfolio shoot in NYC.
-Booking a photoshoot doing makeup for a magazine submission!
2. What made you want to get started in the industry?
When I was in 6th grade my aunt bought me my first eyeshadow palette from Sephora. I thought it was the coolest thing, ever since I’ve always had a passion for makeup/ beauty.  I took cosmetology in high school and knew this was the field I wanted to be in.
3. What have you been up to recently?
I have been working as an eyelash extension artist at a salon in New Jersey as well as a freelance makeup artist!
4. Who do you admire in the industry?
I admire many beauty influencers/ Makeup artists. One artist in particular is Court Montes. She is a makeup artist I follow on Instagram! She does beautiful work, but she also loves sharing techniques which I love. I love when artists share their techniques, especially because not every technique works great for each individual person so it’s great to see others input!
5. What was your favorite experience as a CHIC student?
My favorite experience at CHIC was doing rotations with my classmates. I loved not only learning from my teachers but also learning from my classmates. During rotations it was amazing to see how everybody recreated the work but with their own added touch.6. What advice would you give to aspiring makeup artists?
Never give up! It’s takes a lot of practice and determination. When they say practice makes perfect it’s true! You can never practice too much! With each time you grow and learn something new! So never give up!
